Magellan Health

Magellan Health has a presence in healthcare across various sectors. In the context of pediatric care and insurance in Virginia, it’s important to understand the specific role of Magellan in your child’s coverage.

Potential Roles of Magellan:

  • Behavioral Health Management for Medicaid: In Virginia Medicaid, Magellan often manages the behavioral health services for members enrolled in certain Medicaid Managed Care Organizations (MCOs). If your child is enrolled in a Virginia Medicaid plan that contracts with Magellan for behavioral health, referrals for mental health or substance use services may be managed through Magellan.
  • Commercial Insurance Plans: Magellan also offers commercial insurance plans directly or through employers. If your child has a commercial insurance plan administered by Magellan, their medical benefits (including pediatric care) would be processed according to the terms of that specific plan.
